Duarte's Tavern |

In the mid 1980s, writer Allston James and I discussed how we could collaborate on an article for one of the local full color magazines. Somehow we settled on a family restaurant that served wonderful fresh food in the sleepy town of Pescadero, near Half Moon Bay. Allston and I along with my parents ended up spending the day in Pescadero as the guests of Duartes owner, Ron Duarte. As days go, it was one of those special moments in life that you just don't forget. Ron, ever prideful of the work of his family in creating not only a restaurant but an industry supporting the people of the region, was the perfect host. Unfortunately, we could not find a market for the article but I was still left with glowing memories and wonderful photographs. I decided to go ahead and post the slides along with my musings of the day. |
Duarte's Tavern features a simple American style menu with all fresh ingredients that we discovered were produced greatly through the efforts of the Duarte family. Besides an herb garden immediately in back of the tavern, the fertile river valley around the town of Pescadero is rife with fields of vegetables grown specifically for the Duarte family concern.
